곳곳에 퍼진 여성 사업가들은 또 다른 여성의 롤모델이 되기도 하고, 남성위주였던 사회를 새롭게 변화시키는데 기여하기도 한다. 그들의 참여는 성별이 지도자의 절대 요건이 아님을 명백하게 밝히는 근거가 되며, 오히려 어떤 면에선 남성보다 우월한 능력을 지니고 있음에 사람들은 그들을 더욱 지지한다. 

손인성 회장도 이런 축의 여성지도자로 꼽히는 인물이다. 경영 아이콘은 ‘사람’이며, 그로 인해 생긴 수익을 사회에 환원하겠다는 그는 10여년이 넘는 세월동안 금전적 이익을 절대 배제한 채 문화사업을 해오고 있다. 쉽지 않은 결정이지만 오히려 그녀의 삶은 더욱 풍요로워지고 사업은 더욱 성공적으로 완성돼 갔다. 손 회장이 손대면 성공한다는 말이 있을 정도니 말이다. 

그런 그가 또 한 번의 날갯짓을 준비하고 있다. ‘베스트오토엔시트’를 설립해 세계최초 물 절약 기술을 가진 친환경기업으로 말이다. 누구나 할 수 있었다면 손 회장은 시작조차 하지 않았다. 성공시킬 수 있다는 신념으로 누구도 도전하지 않았던 분야에서 최고의 자리에 오르기 위한 노력, 그 노력의 댓가는 항상 그를 배신하지 않았다. 그럼 지금부터 그의 성공스토리를 차근히 펼쳐본다.

건강기능식품 개발로 업계 선두 우뚝!!

그간 다양한 도전과 경험이 있었을 터. 그 중 인생의 획을 그은 도전을 고르라면 단연 (주)인성내츄럴을 성공적으로 이끈 것이다. 여성이 사업가로 성공하기가 유난히 힘든 보수적인 대한민국에서 건강기능식품으로 우량기업을 일군 손 회장은 기업운영에 특별함보다는 정직과 노력을 신념으로 두고 ‘사람’이 아이콘인 기업경영으로 성공가도를 달렸다. 

(주)인성내츄럴은 기독교 정신에 바탕을 두고 영리 추구보다 인간과 복지, 문화를 앞서 생각하며 봉사와 베풂을 실천하고 있다. 건강 기능 식품을 자체 개발해 전국 직영점 13곳,

로드샵 8곳, 미국지사 4곳(가든그로브, 샌프란시스코, LA, 다이아몬드바에 법인), 중국 심양에 지사를 둔 글로벌 기업으로 사업영역을 확장해 가고 있는 손 회장은 특히 자사의 교육 프로그램을 개발, 전문 상담원들을 통해 고객에게 1:1 맞춤형 제품을 제공함으로써 신뢰를 쌓아갔다. 

그는 개개인의 체질뿐만 아니라 정신적, 환경적인 부분을 두루 살펴 종래에는 마음의 건강까지 회복하는 것이야 말로 자신에게 주어진 사명이라고 굳게 믿는다. 

기업의 이익창출 보다 좋은 재료를 공수해 좋은 제품을 만들고자 했던 그의 노력은 2001년 미국 FDA에서 7개 품목의 승인을 따내는 쾌거를 이루기도 했다. 

이렇게 성공한 여성 CEO로서의 삶을 살고 있는 그는 기업 이익의 일정부분을 미혼모 후원과 청소년 약물 중독 예방 및 마약 중독자 재활에 사용하고 있으며 특히 문화예술에 대한 지원과 투자를 아끼지 않고 있다. 

음악에 대한 남다른 열정

부천신포니에타의 단장이자 제1바이올린 주자로 활약하고 있는 손 회장은 하모니카, 기타를 독학으로 익힐 만큼 음악적 재능을 타고났다. 평소 악기연주에 흥미를 보였던 그가 바이올린을 시작으로 오케스트라의 웅장함에 반해 직접 민간 음악 단체를 창단한지도 올해로 벌써 12년. 창단 전 타 오케스트라를 맡았을 때 여러 어려움으로 단장직을 내놓고 그만뒀을 때 그와 함께 했던 단원들은 손 회장을 따르면서 지금의 부천신포니에타를 만들었던 것이다. 그의 헌신적인 노력은 신포니에타를 어엿한 민간 오케스트라 반열에 올려놓았고, 영리를 떠난 순수한 아마추어 오케스트라로 문화체육관광부, 한국문화예술위원회, 경기문화재단, 부천시, 부천문화재단 등으로부터 기금 지원을 받으며 부천의 대표적인 음악단체로 우뚝 서게 된 것이다. 이로 인해 부천시 문화예술 발전에 기여 할 수 있었으며, 시민들에겐 자연스럽게 클래식 음악을 접할 수 있는 기회를 만들어 주게 된것이다. 

신포니에타는 (주)인성내츄럴에서 얻은 이익을 사회에 환원하는 차원에서 일 년에 한 차례 정기연주회를 개최하고 있으며 공연을 통한 수익을 배제하고, 단원들의 회비와 손 회장의 후원으로만 전적으로 운영되어 지고 있다. 

그의 목표는 뚜렷하다. 부천신포니에타를 국내 최초의 실버 오케스트라로 발돋움 시키는 것이 그것이다. 가족이 함께 할 수 있는, 관객과 소통하는 무대를 만드는 것이 그가 지향하는 바이다. 

그의 음악적 관심은 과거 신예 바이올리니스트 박혜윤(독일 한스 아이슬러 음대 재학 중)을 (9세 서울시립오케스트라와 협연) 발굴하는 탁월한 안목이 더해지기도 했으며, 2009년 제58회 뮌헨 ARD 콩쿠르에서 우승한 당시17세 박혜윤은 한국인으로서 기악 부문 첫 우승, 58년 콩쿠르 역사상 최연소 우승상과 특별상 두개를 거머쥐는 쾌거를 이뤘다. 이 타이틀로 국제적인 관심을 한 몸에 받고 있으며 유수한 오케스트라와 전세계를 다니며 활발한 연주활동을 펼치고 있다. 또 2012년 LMM어워드는 16세에서 25세사이의 전 세계에 유수한 세 명의 Violinists에게 3년마다 부여되는 런던 뮤직 매스터스상을 수상했다. 2003년 비에니아프스키 콩쿠르 3위, 2007년 누이스스포 콩쿠르 1위 등 우승을 거듭하며 클래식계의 차세대 스타로 떠오르고 있다. 

새로운 경쟁력 ‘(주)베스트오토엔시트’

세계최초로 인체하중만을 이용해 대·소변을 구분하는 ‘무전원 자동물내림 변좌시트’를 개발한 베스트오토엔시트는 2년 전 손인성 회장이 제품의 경쟁력을 높이 평가해 지원을 해 왔던 신생 기업이다. 혁신적인 기술 도입을 통해 에너지 강국으로서의 도약을 노려볼 만하다고 판단한 것. (주)베스트오토 연구진들의 수많은 실패와 시행착오를 거쳐 지난 12월 탄생시킨 ‘무전원 자동물내림 변좌시트’는 외부 에너지를 일체 사용하지 않고 오로지 인체하중의 에너지만으로 대·소변을 구분해 자동 물내림을 실현하는 혁신적인 제품이다. 

이것은 기존 제품의 50%이상의 물을 절약할 수 있고, 전 국민 사용 시 연간 약 7억5천4백만 톤의 절수효과로 약 9천8백억 원의 수자원 절감효과를 기대할 수 있을 것이라고 한다. 따라서 화장실 문화에 새로운 지평을 열 것으로 기대가 모아지고 있는 (주)베스트오토엔시트는 지난해 12월, 정식 제품 출시와 함께 10년간 유통업계에 잔뼈가 굵은 장석환 대표를 전문 경영인으로 투입, 손인성 회장은 전체적인 회사의 운영을 맡으며 미다스의 능력을 선보일 당찬 계획을 가지고 있다. 

이로써 국내 뿐 아니라 전 세계를 무대로 화장실의 일대 혁신을 예고하며, 현재 여러 나라의 러브콜과 함께 국내 대기업인 대우인터내셔날과 코오롱 등에 총판권 계약을 성사시켜 괄목한 성과를 이루기도 했다.

Businesswomen spread everywhere can become a role model for other women and contribute to changing the men-oriented society anew. Their participation draws support from people because of their shown clear evidence that gender is not an absolute necessity for leadership and that in some respects they are superior to men. President Son In-sung is one of such woman leaders. Her management icon is ‘person,’ and following her own promise to return the profits from business to the community, she has been carrying on a culture business for over 10 years absolutely neglecting financial gain. It was not an easy decision but her life has beome rather richer and her business more successful. She was even called a Midas touch. As such, she is preparing for another unusual attempt. She established the company of Bestauto & Seat, an eco-friendly enterprise owning the technology of saving water in the way the world has never seen before. President Son would not even have tried at all if it had been possible for anyone. Her efforts to elevate to the best place never betrayed her when with faith to be successful she entered a new area where no one made a try. Now let’s find how she has won success. 

People’s health at her top priority

Of her many diverse challenges and experiences, she can choose one thing as a turning point of her career: her success at Insung Natural, Inc. In conservative Korea where it is hard for a woman to be successful in business, President Son built up a healthy enterprise with health supplements. Rather than using any special knowhow in business administration, President Son was on a fast track by running the company with the icon of person and laying confidence in honesty and faith. 

Based on Christianity, Insung Natural, Inc. is practicing service and sharing in precedence of humans, welfare and culture over seeking profits. By developing health supplements President Son is expanding her enterprise to a global one with 13 company-operated stores and 8 road shops in the country, 4 branches in the US (corporations in Garden Grove, San Francisco, LA and Diamond Bar) and 1 branch in Shenyang, China. She won confidence particularly by providing personally tailored products to customers through skilled counselors and by developing the company’s own programs. She firmly believes that it is her given duty to look over not only each person’s constitution but also spiritual and environmental parts and then help them recover their mind’s health. Her endeavor to make better products by carrying good materials by air rather than creating her business profits finally paid off in 2001 by winning the FDA’s approval for 7 items in the US. As a successful woman president, she is using some portion of corporate profits for sponsoring unmarried mothers, preventing the youths from drug abuse and rehabilitating drug addicts, especially supporting and investing in culture and art unsparingly. 

Unusual passion for music 

Presidnet Son, acting as the head and the first violin player of Bucheon Sinfonietta, was born with such a musical talent that she taught herself the harmonica and the guitar. As she had been interested in playing instruments she started with the guitar but became so attracted to the magnificence of an orchestra that she found a civil music group herself 12 years ago. When she took charge of another orchestra before, she resigned herself because of many difficulties but the members who followed her jointly made Bucheon Sinfonietta as it is. 

Her devoted efforts raised Sinfoenietta to the standing of unharmed civil orchestra and this pure amateur orchestra came to receive the support of funds from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Arts Council Korea, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, Bucheon city, Bucheon Culture Foundation, etc. and came in place as a typical music organization of Bucheon. Her activity contributed to developing Bucheon city’s culture and art providing the citizens with a natural opportunity to be in contact with classical music. In an effort to return the profits from Insung Natural, Inc., Singonietta is holding one regular concert annually solely depending on President Son’s sponsorship and the members’ dues without profits from its performance. She has a definite goal of building up Bucheon Sinfonietta into the first silver orchestra in Korea. She is aiming to make a stage on which one’s family will get together in mutual communication with the audience. Her musical interest was exercised when she scouted an emerging violinist Park Hye-yoon (Currently attending Hans Eisler College of Music) who jointly performed with Seoul Philharmonic orchestra at the age of 9. Park Hye-yoon (then at 17) who won the grand prix at the 58^th Munchen ARD contest, made the first Korean winner for the part of instrument along with the youngest winner in 58years’ history of the event and two special awards as well. With this title, she is receiving an international interest and actively carrying out performances with leading orchestras traveling around the world. Then 2012, she won London Music Masters award, which is conferred every three years, as one of the three winners for superb violinists in the world between 16 and 25. She won the 3^rd place at 2003 Vieniawski Concours and the 1^st place at 2007 Nuisspo Concours, rising to a next-generation star in the classical world. 

New competitiveness of BestAuto & Seat 

BestAuto & Seat is an emerging enterprise and developed powerless auto-flushing toilet that tells urine from feces using only human weights for the first time in the world. Since two years ago, President Son In-sung has been supporting this company thinking highly of the product’s competitiveness. She considered that the idea could lead the country to an energy powerhouse through introducing innovative technology. Last December, the company finally developed ‘powerless auto-flushing toilet after numerous failures and errors of Bestauto researchers, and this product realizes automatic flushing by telling urine from feces with the energy of human weights without using any energy outside. 

This device can save over 50% of water compared to the existing ones and if used by the whole nation, it is said to have the effect of saving water resources worth around 980 billion won a year by saving around 754 million tons of water. Drawing expectation to break new ground for toilet culture, Bestauto & Seat officially launched its product in December last year and invited CEO Chang Seok-hwan, who has experienced distribution for a decade, with ambition to show the capability of the Midas touch together with president Son who is supposed to be in charge of the overall management. 

Not only domestically but also internationally this presages a great revolution in toilet culture of the world and the company, currently receiving love calls from many countries, accomplished a remarkable result by entering into a contract for exclusive sale with Daewoo International and Kolon, two large enterprises of the country.
